SCARA Reunion Lunch 2011

Post date: Jan 09, 2012 6:59:20 PM

The New Connaught Rooms were once again the venue for what was our 6th SCARA Reunion, a now well established event on our calendar. This year’s luncheon took place on Wednesday 12th October.

For those of you who are regular attendees, you may have noticed myself and my husband Trevor in a now familiar role, assisting Belinda with meeting and greeting everyone as they arrived, and distributing the name tags and drinks vouchers. This is a wonderful way of ensuring that I get to meet everyone and at the very least say hello. Whilst I recognise most of our members I sometimes struggle with their names so Belinda always comes to the rescue – amazingly, she seems to know everyone!

Moving to our tables after the initial meet and greet, we spent an enjoyable afternoon with a drink and a bite to eat, catching up with friends and colleagues. Judging by the non-stop chatter, there was a lot of catching up to do.

Throughout this year’s luncheon, Captain Joe Welch was circulating the room selling a DVD compiled by himself showing archive film and photo’s offering a fascinating insight into life aboard the early container vessels. The DVD costs £ 10.00 and is still available by contacting jcwelch2@btinternet.com

(profits to ‘The Mission to Seafarers’)

Unfortunately we had no official photos of this years reunion as our photographer, Peter Green, was in the States on a previous engagement. He will hopefully be available next year.
