SCARA
An association for former employees and contractors of OCL, P&O Containers, P&O Nedlloyd and associated companies.
SCARA
The Special Containers Active Retirement Association (SCARA) was set up at the end of 2005 with the principal objective of organising an annual luncheon for members. Since its formation, annual lunches have been held in London on an annual basis (excluding 2020 when the Coronavirus situation prevented the event from taking place). Although the membership is primarily UK based those attending the luncheon have included people from as far afield as Australia and New Zealand. Reunions and other gatherings also take place regularly around the UK (see SCARA Reunions and Events).
SCARA keeps its members informed of relevant events and other news by email, letter and via the PONLHeritage website.
SCARA played a major part in the publication, selling and distribution of the book British Box Business: The History of OCL edited by Alan Bott, OBE.
Membership of SCARA is open to all former staff of OCL, P&OCL & P&ONL and associated companies regardless of whether or not the former employee is retired. Employees of contractors used by OCL, P&OCL & P&ONL, who themselves worked for these P&O companies, may also become members of SCARA. Membership is free if communication is by email or £10 if by post (UK). If you are interested in joining then please see the details at the bottom of this page.
