SCARA Golf Day 2018 - Report

Post date: Jun 03, 2018 3:53:50 PM

Roger Brown has kindly provided the following report:

2018 maybe remembered for Harry and Meghan, 2018 may be remembered for the fact Beagle House was reduced to a rubble strewn Footprint of its former glory, 2018 may be remembered for England winning the World Cup…… however let’s keep it real shall we………….No, 2018 will be remembered for the fact that Adrian Malupa now has somewhere to keep his roses!!!! (until next May at least).

Always the bridesmaid, never the blushing bride, Malupa finally pushes aside serial rose buyers Barraclough and Shoesmith to lift Lady St Johnston’s coveted Rose Bowl after 9 years of trying.

A great day was had by the 32 attendees, the sun shone all day and it was not so much as making a decision as to whether the next shot was a six iron or a seven, but whether it was factor 30 or 50 applied to the barnet.

The course was its usual magnificent self with the wild life in abundance….. But enough about our work colleagues from trade division ;-) , but seriously, ducks and geese with their chicks all over the place, rabbits in abundance it was very nice to be out there. Meanwhile, Adrian had no time for flying things except birdies and albatross’s on his card, as he carved out a respectable 32 points, only just beating Steve Barraclough on count back.

The Longest Drive was won by Steve Gawlers guest John Savidge. This must have been a massive hit as Steve said “ I don’t travel that far on me holidays".

Nearest the Pin was out of Adrian’s 4 ball, won by his guest Bob Harper. In his desperation to win Adrian tried to buy the shot off Bob but Bob said he really had no need for £2.55 pence worth of luncheon vouchers (From your Customs days Adrian or Box Lane Barking?)

The Guest Winner of the Day with 36 points off a club handicap was a new joiner Russell Start, who was Roger Brown’s invitee. Russell being no stranger to the services of OCL/P&O as being the main shipping manager at Pickfords Removals for many years who was also instrumental in setting up a drop and pick up out of Barking container base to Enfield – Russell recently ending up as MD of the company.

Adrian and I look forward to welcoming our SCARA colleagues and guests at next year’s Rose bowl, which will be our 10th year.
