Dear SCARA Member,

Janette Rawlinson has written to tell us of the death of a dear colleague:

Sad to report that our former import sales colleague, Mike Raybould passed away on 15th June following two weeks in hospital with a severe lung infection.

Working in import sales at Perry Barr containerbase Birmingham, he is fondly remembered by all who worked with him at the time….a regular at Birmingham OCL sales reunions, he kept in touch with several former colleagues over the years - a group his fellow salesman Mike Utley always referred to amusingly as the 69ers…. denoting the year when OCL’s Birmingham office at Perry Barr Containerbase was established.

I started in 1977 and the salesmen always came to the offices on a Friday. An era before email, fax when telex or dictation was the order of the day for their sales reports, we looked forward to their tales and banter that made the office a very different place….

Mike was always part of social events and cricket if I remember correctly. Fond memories of happy times…. RIP Mike.'

Update 01/07/2020

Funeral is Thursday 9th July at St John the Baptist church, St John’s Hill, Shenstone, Lichfield WS14 0JB at 2pm.

Due to pandemic, the service will be broadcast into the grounds so people can socially distance. Mike and his wife Veronica were very involved in their local church and viewed it as their family.

Service allows up to 30 people socially distancing - Veronica said she hopes it’s good weather. :) She’s happy particularly for anyone local who wants to attend with own picnic blanket/rug, refreshments and sit in the church grounds - hot drinks will be served.

Any donations to Cancer Research UK - please send donations directly to CRUK in his memory .
