Lucy Garlick

Lucy Garlick was not a SCARA member but I thought that you might be interested in this fond remembrance sent to me by Joan Chapman:

"I felt I ought to write to pass on the news that Lucy Garlick passed away on 6th November last. I think she would have been in her early-mid eighties. She was a lovely and kind 'Eighth Floor Waitress' in the days when there was the management dining room (I have no idea of how long she was at Beagle House for, I know she was there when I started in 1981 and I do have a photo of her as a pensioner at one of the pensioners' reunions we organised at Beagle House.)

I remember when she had her retirement party (in the same area on the 8th floor) - when it was time for her to leave all the directors and everyone stood and clapped her out, it was quite a touching moment, she was respected by all and loved by some.

We always kept in touch on one another's birthdays and in May I sent her a card containing my news as usual but then I got a little note back from the Administrator at the Nursing Home in Beckenham (where she'd been for many years, Olive and I visited her there once) to say that she had passed away in November. She had been in hospital for a few days, then came back to the Nursing Home but passed very suddenly on Nov 6th."

Kind regards,

Belinda McCormack
