The first SCARA regional reunion took place at Leeds on Sunday 1 February . Our thanks go to Edward van Dorp who kindly provided his account of the day, and to Malcolm Ellis who provided the photographs.
David Cross and myself braved bad weather and the closure on the East Coast Main railway line from Kings Cross to attend the SCARA lunch at the BOX , a sports bar venue in Leeds . I , like you , thought David knew a lot about trains but climbing a staircase on a deserted station at Tamworth on a Sunday morning before 10am made we wonder!! Anyway we got there eventually and were both very pleased we had made the effort . We were made very welcome by Gerard Kellegher and Nigel Chew who had planned the event . The venue was the very appropriately named venue “The Box”!
The early 12 noon start, the fact alcohol duty had been increased that morning and not great weather did not impact attendance at all and I think altogether 22 hardy souls attended the lunch which was a very good effort and we all had a great time . The food was also excellent .

As is always the case with all SCARA reunions, stories were swapped, and dozens of ‘do you remember… ‘ statements made. Not everyone could (!!!!), however the oldest SCARA member present, Tom Fry, had journeyed from Hull with his daughter and was sharper than anyone else at 90 years old. It was great to see him . It was actually great to see everyone and it was well worth the dodgy Cross-inspired rail journey… I lost him on the way back! So if you have not been to a SCARA regional event id recommend them as a very worthwhile couple of hours amongst real friends from decades ago .
