Donald Umfreville

"Sadly I have to tell SCARA members my dear brother passed away peacefully on 9th October aged 93. His P&O career started when he joined the Cash and Baggage department Tilbury, and later the Dock Cashier's office. When passenger services transferred to Southampton he moved to London accounts. This was followed by transfer to P&O Roadways and based at depots including Orsett Barking Upminster and Ipswich. Some of his duties included lectures on good practice and safety matters at depots around the country, and on occasions represented the company (successfully) at Magistrate Courts against alleged road traffic violations. He continued in this role until retirement in 1997. Don leaves wife Iris, three children and a grandson.

Funeral will take place at Seven Hills Crematorium, Felixstowe Road, Ipswich, IP10 0FG at 1.30pm Thursday 5th November and afterwards at the Anchor Inn, Stratford st Mary, Suffolk."
