In the early years of Overseas Containers Limited many staff moved across from their original employers, the four shipping lines who set up OCL, as the trades that they had operated conventionally were containerised.  Colin Stratton-Brown came to OCL from Union Castle where he had been one of the original managers of the “Beacon“ service between Europe and the East African ports .  Colin managed the joint service run in conjunction with the Harrison Line and Ellerman Line.

Once in OCL Colin established himself as a manager of great energy and eventually moved on from the East African service to running the new service to the eastern Mediterranean.  He also took on the Tradelink service that was designed to offer services to and from locations not served by OCL but using transhipment to and from other lines networks.  Colin will be remembered for his enthusiasm and the innovative solutions that he brought to the many issues that faced OCL in its early years.
