The following sad news has been received from Rosemarie Cast who was a friend and ex-colleague of Christina's:

Christina Smith

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the passing of a much loved sister/sister-in-law/aunt and friend Christina Smith on 22 December 2015 in R D & E Hospital Exeter. Christina endured numerous life-threatening back/hip operations and infections (9 operations within the last 14 months) but it never stopped her resolve to continue with life.

Christina worked in various finance departments in P&O including Payroll, Trio Pooling, FET and ANZ Trade. During her time at P&O Christina became good friends with Mike Grounds (her Manager) and his late wife Margaret who shared the same mutual interests in arts and crafts as Christina. They remained best friends until her death.

When she took early retirement Christina joined her family in Ilfracombe. She very much enjoyed her new life in Devon and became involved with many voluntary activities - Brookdale Church, Go North Devon (Transport & Mobility for elderly and disabled for North Devon) and the Lifeboat Service.

Christina lived in the East End with her late parents and was an avid West Ham supporter and also the Labour Party. Although Christina had many health issues, including scoliosis and diabetes, (since childhood) she still managed to run many clubs on her estate including childrens club, cake decorations and arts and crafts. Christina tried to help people less fortunate than herself and raised vital funds for her various charities.

Christina will be deeply missed by everyone and will always be remembered for her warm and caring manner throughout her life.
