"Many SCARA members, especially those with an interest in cricket, will have come across our former agency manager in Madras (now Chennai) in Southern India, C.D. Gopinath known to everyone as 'Gopi'.
We have received word that Gopi passed away on 9th April 2026, just one day short of his 96th birthday. He ran our agency in Chennai for many years with great success and was hugely helpful when we set up our own P&O agency in India. He was a very calm, polite and gentle man with a keen interest in Tamil poetry. It is his exploits on the cricket field for which he will also be remembered. He played 31 test matches for India, some as captain, and was the last survivor of the first ever Indian team to beat the England test team in 1952. He will be fondly remembered and very much missed by everyone."
