Captain Bryan Chipperfield

Very sadly we have received news that Captain Bryan Chipperfield passed away on 17 June 2022. Bryan was a regular at the SCARA annual reunion lunches and will be greatly missed by his many friends and colleagues.



The following obituary was published yesterday in the Hampshire Chronicle:


"Bryan Victor Chipperfield Captain


CHIPPERFIELD Captain Bryan Victor Peacefully at Winchester Hospice, on 17th June 2022, aged 77 years. Beloved husband of Josephine, devoted father to Nicholas, Clare, Caroline and Thomas and loving grandfather to Fredrik, Charlotte, Benjamin, Grace, Amelia, Bobby and Ollie.


A Service of Thanksgiving will be held at St. Cross Church, Winchester on Friday 29th July at 11.30 am.


Family flowers only. Donations, if desired, to Mission to Seafarers or Motor Neurone Disease Association can be made at Richard Steel & Partners Alderman House, Winchester SO23 8SD"

"Bryan Chipperfield is a retired Master Mariner who did Pre-Sea training at HMS Worcester from 1959-61 before being apprenticed to the P&O S N Co. In ‘69 he transferred to Container Fleets Ltd and was promoted Master of the ‘Jervis Bay’ in ‘78. He retired in 2004, his last command being the ‘P&O Nedlloyd Cook’. He maintains an interest in all aspects of the shipping world and feels that he can contribute on nautical matters, especially with reference to container shipping."
