We have recently received the sad news that Bill Wilson has died. Bill was not a SCARA member but from the numerous emails received concerning his death it is clear that he was known to many of you. Bill's funeral will take place on Thursday 24th November 2011, 11am at All Saints Church, Hockerill, Bishop's Stortford with refreshments afterwards at Bishop's Stortford Golf Club from 12pm. Alan Robertson writes: "Those of us involved in the small matter of keeping the UK operation running during the 90’s will mourn the loss of a great character – Bill Wilson . There are not many operators that we meet today who were not only around but influential at the start of hauling containers around the UK countryside. Bill understood I felt the transition that road transport made for the days when the driver had no heating in his cab to todays world of the sleeper cab ! . Because he had done most if not all of the jobs that as Transport managers we inherited in the 80’s 90’s and 00’s it was close to impossible to pull the wool over his eyes – even if one wanted to ! . Those of us at the time will well remember the trailer MOT examination and checks , his seemingly innocuous phone calls leading to much more admission of guilt than you wanted to admit ! But equally balanced by very strong support when as happens things go wrong. I was very proud to have had the opportunity to work for and with him . “
