Steve Powney

We are sorry to have to pass on the sad news of the passing of Steve Powney, a former Seastaff and Fleet Management Division colleague.  Kevin Maclean first announced Steve's passing yesterday (08/02/2024) on the OCL Bay Boats Facebook group, and we thank Kevin for agreeing to us repeating the notice here:

"It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of Steve Powney, Chief Electrical Officer and later Electrical Superintendent in the Rotterdam Office.

Steve passed away in hospital ICU on Feb 4th after contracting pneumonia and leaves wife Gill and daughter Laura.

Steve started his career with an apprenticeship at Devonport Naval Dockyard and went to sea with Bank Line, Panocean, P&O Cargo, OCL and P&O Containers/Nedlloyd.

P&O Containers/Nedlloyd saw him become an expert in all aspects of shipbuilding living many years in Japan/South Korea and being involved in over 18 vessel builds (Oriental Bay through to P&O Nedlloyd Cook).

He then progressed as a consultant in 3 Quays Marine and Royal Oceanic before going it alone where he managed completely the build of the 73m superyacht “Plan B,” the pinnacle of his career.

RIP Steve, me old shipmate!"

A number of tributes and condolences have been posted on Facebook under Kevin's original post, including:

P&O Nedlloyd's Oriental Bay, one of the vessels that

Steve Powney was associated with.

A short YouTube clip on the 73m superyacht Plan B.

Steve managed the complete build of this magnificent vessel.

Our deepest condolences go to Steve's wife Gill, his daughter Laura, family and friends.
