Alfred Lo
We have received the sad news from Joseph Chan of the passing of Mr. Alfred Lo, former P&O Nedlloyd Hong Kong Managing Director. Eric Wong has provided the following tribute:
"Our dear Alfred Lo has passed away peacefully, leaving behind fond memories of him as an inspirational leader, an insightful and supportive mentor, and a true friend.
Among the numerous virtues that Alfred will be remembered, we want to first mention his remarkable running of the Nedlloyd service center in Hong Kong as well as pioneering to set up the Shared Service Center in Shenzhen.
Of course, the highlight will be his masterful management of the merger between Nedlloyd and P&O Containers, and the Joining Forces between PONL and Maersk. The hallmark of the former was achieving the goal of 1+1 equals more than 2 in business, and less than 2 in cost. In a few years after 1997, Alfred had established PONL as a dynamic, forward looking and people oriented shipping company in Hong Kong and South China. The Company attracted many aspiring personnel to join, where they could learn and grow in a warm and supportive environment.
As regards the Joining Forces with Maersk, Alfred wholeheartedly and relentlessly engaged with the senior management of the two companies to protect the careers and financial entitlements of his PONL staff, winning the deepest gratitude and respect of all concerned.
Alfred’s care and concern for the well-being of the PONL family did not wane after the effective integration with Maersk. He kept in close touch with all of us, readily offered advice and help as requested. He periodically organised re-union gatherings, all of which were enthusiastically participated.
Alfred’s visions, missions and values will continue to inspire and guide us in the years to come.
We wish his soul rest in peace, and our deepest condolences to Mrs. Lo and Alfred’s family in this most difficult time."
Our thoughts are also with Alfred's wife and family at this sad time.
